About Valrhona (Soparind Bongrain Group)
The history of Grand Chocolat began, in 1922, with the creation of the chocolate factory in Tain l’Hermitage, by a pastry chef by the name of Albéric Guironnet. In 1947 the Valrhona brand was born. Its name is a simple contraction of ‘Vallée du Rhône’, an exceptional agricultural terrain. The brand soon began to become known among artisans for honouring tradition, its total mastery of the quality of its products and commitment. In 1984, Valrhona began to conquer gourmet cooking thanks to its gourmet creations. Since 1990, the French company has strengthened their range among cooking professionals by helping them with specific requirements by providing exclusive products and services.
The École du Grand Chocolat, created in 1989 by Frédéric Bau, is undoubtedly the best example of Valrhona’s commitment to its clients, and today the world’s only Chocolate Encyclopaedia is the research laboratory’s first ever publication.
Valrhona is an ethical and committed company, at home, with the Valrhona Foundation for taste, and abroad, to our growers in cacao-producing countries.
With 4 branches in Barcelona, Milan, New York and Tokyo, the brand is present in 73 countries and employs over 500 people. To better understand cacao, the company also embraces the art of planting and has a cacao supplier in Venezuela.
46 % of turnover is made in France, 54 % abroad.
